Zhijian graduated from South China Agricultural University in China in 2015 in Civil Engineering. Then, he continued his Master degree in Structural Engineering at the University of Sheffield, UK. He started his PhD degree at the University of Sheffield in 2016, focusing on the seismic risk assessment for industrial facilities.

Recent activities and achievements

Project title: Seismic risk to industrial facilities and rehabilitation techniques

  • To extend the existing seismic risk assessment framework for industrial facilities by the University of Sheffield based on previous study by the researchers.
  • To conduct a case study for the existing industrial facilities in Turkey, using the developed framework.

Tasks and methodology: The aim of this work is extend and optimise the existing seismic risk assessment framework for industrial facilities at the University of Sheffield. A numerical model of the investigated building is applied, followed by the probabilistic seismic hazard assessment, site-specific ground response analysis, vulnerability assessment of the industrial building and fragility evaluation of the industrial equipment. According to the results from the above analyses, the seismic risk of the industrial facilities can be evaluated for the future earthquakes. Therefore, seismic strengthening or rehabilitation can be applied for the earthquake mitigation.

Expected results:

An optimised seismic risk assessment framework for industrial facilities with higher accuracy and usability.
