Sir Frederick Mappin Building
My name is Shanshan Cheng. I embraced Sheffield since 2015, as a postdoc in Structural Engineering. Before that I obtained my PhD from Plymouth University (UK), on the project “Fire performance of cold-formed steel sections”, where I focused on the fire performance of partially protected cold-formed steel (CFS) members. In 2015 my research focused on the side wall buckling of rectangular hollow section (RHS) full-width X-joints, considering the effect of compressive chord pre-load. Since 2016 my research focuses on the fire spalling of concrete, aiming to improve understanding of fire-induced spalling of modern high-performance concrete, and to find a sustainable spalling-mitigation solution by using fibres recovered from end-of-life tyres. My research interests include Structural Fire Safety, Instability of 4 Steel Structural members, Concrete Spalling in fire, and Performance-based Design.
