Profile

Maurizio Guadagnini is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering of the University of Sheffield. He has more than 15 years of research experience in the field of experimental mechanics and advanced modelling of concrete elements utilising both conventional and novel reinforcing systems.

He is the secretary and active member of Task Group 9.3 of the International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib), member of the council of the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC) and member of two RILEM Technical Committees on strengthening of masonry and concrete structures. Dr Guadagnini is the chair and manager of COST Action TU1207 (Next Generation Design Guidelines for Composites in Construction), which currently counts more than 150 participants from 33 countries. He is also the coordinator of the MC ITN Network endure for Durable Reinforcement and Rehabilitation Solutions. The Network comprises 13 academic partners, 1 industry partner and 10 industry associated partners and has a total budget of €3.9M.

He has participated in several EU and nationally funded projects and he is currently involved in the the FP7 funded project Anagennisi, which examines the Innovative Use of all Tyre Components in Concrete.

Recent activities and achievements

  • Chair of COST Action TU1207 on ‘Next Generation Design Guidelines for Composites in Construction’. Action TU1207 aims to coordinate the wide FRP community, including research teams, learned groups (fib, RILEM, CEN), manufacturers and distributors. Action TU1207 has officially started on 12 April 2013 and can already count the support of 23 COST countries and more than 100 researchers and manufacturers.
  • Coordinator of MC ITN endure. The endure network started in October 2013 and will operate for four years. It comprises 13 academic partners, 1 industry partner and 10 Industry associated partners. The network investigates issues related to key priority areas, including seismic rehabilitation and strengthening and a new whole-life performance based philosophy of design. The network will deliver 500 months of training and employ 12 Early Stage Researchers and 5 Experienced Researchers.
  • Secretary of Task Group 9.3 on FRP Reinforcement of the International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib). Work within this TG enabled the development of strong International academic and industrial links.
