During my academic career, I extensively worked on projects related to structural health monitoring (SHM) of civil structures. In my M.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering, I developed an automated algorithm for continuous modal analysis of a soccer stadium, and then, in my Ph.D., I exploited acoustic emission technology in order to identify damage and to assess structural performance in buildings and civil infrastructures. Throughout my interdisciplinary training, I gained experience in structural reliability, fracture mechanics, structural dynamics and corrosion engineering along with hands-on experimental skills such as mechanical and electrochemical testing, nondestructive evaluation techniques, and in situ load testing. As a Teaching Assistant at The University of Sheffield, I help delivering three modules (Structural Dynamic, Advanced Concrete Design, and Fibre Reinforced Polymer Composites in Construction), while my current research focuses in the application of digital image correlation (DIC) to FRP-RC to study shear behaviour and deflection.
