Profile
Zuhal studied the nonlinear behaviour of anchored and unanchored liquid storage tanks for her PhD. The recent fluid-structure interaction techniques of the FEM were applied to assess the seismic behaviour of tanks. During her PhD, she also worked on the time domain and frequency domain scaling procedures to generate design response spectrum compatible earthquake records. She joined Structural Mechanics Division of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven as a postdoctoral researcher in 2010. Her research work concentrated on the numerical assessment of the dynamic response of lifelines to ground vibrations using a 2.5D coupled finite element-boundary element (FE-BE) methodology including soil-structure interaction effects.
