Lampros Koutas was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the Dept. of Civil and Structural Engineering of The University of Sheffield. He holds a Diploma (MEng equivalent) in Civil Engineering (2008), an MSc in Seismic Design of Structures (2010) and a PhD in Civil Engineering (2015), from The University of Patras (Greece). For a two-year period (2014-2016) he was working as a Research Associate at The University of Nottingham. He has extensively worked in projects related to the use of composite materials (such as FRP, TRM) in retrofitting existing reinforced concrete and masonry structures, and has built an expertise in the use of textile-fibre composites in structural and earthquake engineering applications. He is a member of the EU-funded COST Action TU1207 "Next Generation Guidelines for Composite Reinforcements", and a member of the fib Task Group 5.1 "FRP Reinforcement for Concrete Structures".

COST Action TU1207

Action TU1207 leverages the already large amount of work carried out on the use of composite reinforcement for structural applications by individual research teams and existing learned groups. Action TU1207 was established in 2013 and operated until 2017. During these four years the Action aimed: to coordinate European research in...

Innovative Use of all Tyre Components in Concrete
Anagennisi: Innovative Use of all Tyre Components in Concrete An estimated one billion tyres are discarded each year. Post-Consumer tyre arisings for EU countries (2010) are 3.4M tonnes per year. At the moment nearly 50% of all recycled tyres/components still end up as fuel, in low grade applications or in...

Clean steel

Clean steel: Re-use of steel cord from tyres as reinforcement in sustainable construction Concept: A method has recently been developed for recovering very high strength steel cord (RTSC) from the significant volumes of pre-vulcanised rubber waste generated during the manufacture of car and truck tyres. Preliminary research has shown this...
